SDE Optimizing Conditions

ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance, or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions for young people to succeed in SDE.  Survey answers:
  1. Responsibility – Students have the freedom to choose how they spend their days with some daily responsibilities to their community like Judiciary Committee, daily chores, and following the laws created by the community.
  2. Freedom – Students are free to spend their time as they see fit throughout the school. Staff is there to support as needed by students and ensure the running of the school is managed aka lights are on, bills are paid, state required expectations are met.
  3. Access to Tools – There are many resources available to the students depending on their interests.
  4. Nonjudgmental Support – Staff is there to support as students need. No coersion or guidance is offered. Students come to staff when they need them and staff are always around if a students wants to connect.
  5. Age Mixing – We are an age mixing community for children ages 4-18 and adult staff, all on equal footing with an equal voice and vote.
  6. Healthy Community – We follow thesis hey model where a school meeting made up of all students and staff have equal voice and vote in decision making and well as a Judiciary Committee very much like a jury system where cases are heard and Sentenced daily.
