Grown Unschoolers on Most Common Unschooling Myths – Video Series
A three-part crowdsourced video series of grown unschoolers addressing common myths about unschooling.

“If they don’t go to school, how will they learn the basics?”

“How will they gain the social skills needed to thrive?”

“How will they go on to college or university?”

Every advocate for Self-Directed Education and Unschooling has heard some version of these three questions–many times. Given that most people have never met someone who didn’t go to school, these questions are legitimate.

The results of opting out of school is unknown territory. The unknown can bring up all kinds of unexamined fears.

How will I relate to my child if they take a different path than me?

What if my child doesn’t turn into someone that will make me proud?

What if they miss out on the benefits I got from school?

How will my child be safe if they take an alternative route?

This 3-part crowdsourced video series addresses these concerns one by one, by sharing the stories of grown-up unschoolers who speak to (one more time) these myths from their direct experience.

The series was a creative collaboration between EDiT (Education in Transformation) and the Alliance for Self-Directed Education.

EDiT is an independent media platform dedicated to amplifying stories from the global movement that seeks to re-imagine and transform education.
