SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – Access to education is everyone's right and also one's own responsibility.
- Youth Autonomy – How students use their time at school is all up to them except the time to do some things like clean-up that are agreed upon in the school meeting.
- Access to Tools and Technology – All students have access to anything that belongs to the school.
- Adult Allies – We have two staff members who understand our philosophy and there are some volunteers to help us too.
- Free Age Mixing – We welcome all ages from 5 to 11 to enter. There are a few chores allowed only for elder students but they were decided in the school meeting.
- Community – We have daily meetings every morning and meetings we call "Big Meeting" once a week. We decide everything in the meetings and all students and staff have the right to vote.
