Deschooling Chicagoland
United States
Description
This will be an ongoing event with rotating in-person meet-ups and virtual meet-ups in order to maximize access. Open to families, parents, caregivers, and facilitators, this is a time to connect with others in similar situations. Together, we’ll dig into the common questions, doubts, and challenges along with the triumphs, breakthroughs, and joys of living life without school. This is meant to foster community and connections. In-person meetups will be a chance to highlight some of the locations around the city that support homeschooling, unschooling, and Self-Directed Education (SDE).
Annie Friday is the host. Annie has been a longtime educator, now an advocate for Youth Rights and young people’s right to participate in their choice of education. Annie works for the Alliance for Self-Directed Education as a general organizer and editor of Tipping Points Magazine. Annie also supports families and educators through coaching, training, and consulting services.
First meeting — to see who is interested and what’s out there — is a virtual meet-and-greet, low-pressure check-in on Sunday, February 8 from 11 am to 12 pm.
