SDE Optimizing Conditions

ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance, or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions for young people to succeed in SDE.  Survey answers:
  1. Responsibility – At WSS, students are expected to guide their own learning and existence. We fully believe that everyone is self-directed and will learn what they need when they require it.
  2. Youth Autonomy – At WSS, students have time to explore their interests without coercion by other members of the school.
  3. Access to Tools and Technology – Students have access to all school tools and can request additional items through the school meeting and use school resources for this. Staff assists with this process when asked.
  4. Adult Allies – Staff come from diverse backgrounds and ages to support students in their development process. There is no coercion but walking alongside to support in ways the students asks for. There is no grading or testing.
  5. Free Age Mixing – Our community is a mix of ages and there is no segregation of ages. There is no expectation of only certain ages being together.
  6. Community – Our school is run by school meeting elected individuals for certain tasks and everyone has one vote on all decisions made.
