SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – children run the community along with facilitators through democratic community meetings. thy are also responsible for their own learning, their time, their tools.
- Youth Autonomy – self-directed and free play are our core values. there is always choice and a big focus on playing outdoors as a nature based project
- Access to Tools and Technology – tools for making, building, crafting are encouraged and workshops for demonstrating and learning are available but optional. electronic tools are not really focussed on as a part-time project we know the children are exposed at home
- Adult Allies – facilitators are just that and they are trained in non-violent communication
- Free Age Mixing – 4-14 at the moment and this age will expand as the oldest grow
- Community – democratic meetings weekly and when needed
