SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – Self-responsibility is implicit in the unstructured nature of our playgroups and park days. Kids are not pressured by adults to do or learn anything in particular.
- Youth Autonomy – During our playgroup sessions and park days our members have unlimited time to play, explore, and pursue their own interests.
- Access to Tools and Technology – All members have access to all our tools and resources, although some must be used with a more experienced person until the ability to use them safely is demonstrated.
- Adult Allies – We don't do grades or tests. We encourage self-reflection and celebrate progress.
- Free Age Mixing – Our facilities and activities are designed to welcome all ages.
- Community – We make major decisions by consensus at community meetings.
