SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – We believe the best way to learn to trust yourself is by being granted the gift of trust. We believe that children have inherent wisdom and have confidence in them to follow their authentic interests; this makes them better attuned to their passions.
- Youth Autonomy – We celebrate each other and ourselves for the differences that make us beautifully unique. Self-expression, self-knowledge and self-acceptance are nurtured and supported here.
- Access to Tools and Technology – They have access to what they want/need when they want/need it without judgement.
- Adult Allies – We have facilitators that are dedicated in doing the work of creating alongside others and never abusing a position of power to manipulate students into an adult created agenda.
- Free Age Mixing – We age mix with students from 2.5-14 currently as well as adult facilitators and volunteers modeling a life dedicated to self-directed learning.
- Community – We are committed to continuously practicing respect toward ourselves, others, and the world we share. We intentionally create a culture that practices self-compassion, kindness, gratitude, and forgiveness.
