Room to Grow Explorers is a group of homeschooling moms that want to unschool their children in community, so we can support them and each other to be free. Free to learn, free to play, free to live.
SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – We believe that children are capable of directing their own learning. They are often intentional in their learning and sometime surprised by it.
- Youth Autonomy – We provide the space and resources for endless play, exploration and hold the belief that all interests are valuable.
- Access to Tools and Technology – We provide the tools and technology children are interested in.
- Adult Allies – We make the distinction that adults are facilitators not teachers. This is part of our agreement with families to move away from "power over" to "power with" dynamics.
- Free Age Mixing – Age diversity is one of our challenges, as we have started out with mostly 6-year-olds. But yes, we would not have arbitrary separations.
- Community – Yes, everyone will have a voice. We will use Change Up meetings for issue resolution as needed; we will use ALC tools and resources to help keep the Hierarchy out.
