SDE Optimizing Conditions
ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance,
or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions
for young people to succeed in SDE. Survey answers:
- Responsibility – We believe that learning is always happening. Learners of all ages are trusted to follow their curiosity, build meaningful relationships, and engage with the world around them in ways that feel relevant, joyful, and empowering.
- Youth Autonomy – Learners are free to pursue their own interests, choose their daily activities, define their goals, and assess their progress with the support of caring facilitators. Daily offerings are optional.
- Access to Tools and Technology – Learners have access to chrome books and limited internet.
- Adult Allies – Spark is a co-op. We have one paid facilitator and parents/caregivers sign up for co-facilitation days. We rely on families not just to show up but to help shape and care for the environment we’re all building together.
- Free Age Mixing – We are a mixed-age community. We currently have 12 kids ages 6-12. Most offerings are open to all learners. This supports sharing knowledge and learning from each other.
- Community – Our community is rooted in trust, respect, and the idea that everyone learns best when they feel safe, seen, and supported.
