Description

Based on the principles of Self-Directed Education, The Hive is an alternative to school, not to be confused with an alternative school. (Legally, most members become homeschoolers, which allows staff to work with youth in a flexible, collaborative, and respectful manner.) The Hive is open 4 days a week (following the school calendar, but closed Wednesdays), and offers a cornucopia of classes, workshops, tutorials, and other opportunities – all without compulsory attendance, grading, or testing. Each teen member is matched with a staff advisor who meets with them regularly to help define, support, and track visionary goals. The Hive is a non-profit organization supported by tuition and by donations, offering fee reductions, when needed, to foster diversity among the membership.
