One of the most powerful things we have is our stories. There are stories of success, difficulties, the challenges of deschooling, the wonders of watching our children direct their own learning, experiences creating learning communities, and more.

Other people involved in Self-Directed Education want to hear your stories, and we have two platforms for sharing them: the member forums and Tipping Points magazine. If you have a story to tell about SDE, consider writing for Tipping Points. As one reader put it:

“Reading this [Tipping Ponts article] made my heart soar! I’m in the process of developing a learner-centered nature school in central Florida. Many times I have difficulty explaining to skeptics all of the ways risk aversion and hovering is so very harmful. Thank you for this article!”

You don’t have to be a professional writer; we can help you edit your story if needed. This week’s featured Tipping Points articles below are both good examples of stories contributed by ASDE members.

A selection of current topics in the Member Forums:

• Advocating in your Community — “Our SDE group advocates in our community by posting interesting things on Facebook, creating a place for youth to congregate and adults to get support, offering quarterly viewings of Class Dismissed, and having a library with books related to SDE. What is your group doing?”
• SDE in Germany: take it to the street — “On Nov. 11th a youth organization from Germany ... will hold a march for Self-Directed Education and big change in the the German school system... If you have suggestions on how to be visible and take the core points of SDE to the street suggestions are welcome!”
• Schools? — “So tell me about your SDE schools... Why do you like them? Why are you trying to build one? What do you need to build one?”
