SDE Optimizing Conditions

ASDE surveys all SDE communities/programs about how they provide, enhance, or align with each of the Six Optimizing Conditions for young people to succeed in SDE.  Survey answers:
  1. Responsibility – In our learning center the children are registered homeschoolers so that we can support each family with their individual needs and goals and are not required to follow state standards.
  2. Youth Autonomy – In our community children self-direct their entire day with the support of a few community meetings in which offerings for the week are shared that the children may choose to attend.
  3. Access to Tools and Technology – We have multiple computers and an IPad available (with safe settings) where the kids can explore interests and topics from our culture. We also have books and community resources located close by that we engage with often.
  4. Adult Allies – Rather than teachers, we have facilitators available for support with personal projects, leading offerings, and mentoring for community and one on one conflicts.
  5. Free Age Mixing – Our kids all roam freely between their ages (5-14) and are encouraged to play with everyone and attend offerings lead by all ages.
  6. Community – We have 3 types of meetings during our week- one for sharing offerings as a community; one for solving problems as a community; and one for small group reflection and support.
